ABOUT

The first summer school of this series focused on methods for capturing, analyzing and modeling digital trace data (e.g., click streams, interaction networks, sequences of user activities). We invited outstanding keynote speakers and lecturers from different disciplines that teached different methods and showed how digital trace data can be used to answer interesting research questions that are relevant for the social sciences and gain insights into social phenomena like prosocial behavior, consensus or mobility. Students conducted small projects in which they applied the newly learned methods and they were supervised by the lectureres.

We offered full financial support for 10 students (or early career researchers). Students had to apply for the travel grants and a committee of experts selected scholars based on academic excellence, financial needs and diversity (e.g., gender, ethnic and disciplinary diversity).

Socialize with all participants, enjoy local food and drinks close to the beach.

APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION
How to apply?

The school is open to anyone interested in learning about Computational Social Science. The aim is to bring together an heterogeneous international group of people. However, we have a limited number of spots for participants. That means everyone needs to apply (also if you have your own funding).

Please upload the following documents (in one single pdf) at easychair (link below) and attach:

VENUE AND TRANSPORTATION

The school will take place in Sant’Antioco an island of Sardinia, right in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. The school will be located at the  Mercury Boutique Hotel  a brand new four stars hotel located in Calasapone. The hotel is directly at the sea, at walking distance to many different creeks with cristalline water.

Lodging options

We have some rooms reserved until the 10/04/2017. These will be assigned on a “first come first served” basis, so book early! The rooms can host up to two persons and cost 150 Euro per night. We suggest sharing rooms.

After the notification deadline, we will put students in contact and help you finding room mates.

Alternative lodging

If  you will not find place at the Mercury Hotel, you can arrange your lodging in one of the many bed and breakfast, hotels, and airbnb located in the town. Calasapone is indeed 15 km from the main town (Sant’Antioco) and connected via public transportation (local bus). We will add more details about this soon.

Arriving in Sant’Antioco

Sant’Antioco is located about 80 km from the main airport of Sardinia: Cagliari Elmas (CAG).

We organized shuttle buses that will bring from/to the airport. We selected the timing considering the arrival/departure time of all the participants. In particular:

Arrival: On Sunday 23/07/2017 we will have three shuttles. They will depart from the airport at 13:30; 18:30; and 20:30 respectively and go to Sant’Antioco and to the Mercury Boutique Hotel. If you can’t connect to one of our shuttles: The airport is also conveniently connected by train. To reach the school you will need to take the train from “Elmas Aereoporto” to “Carbonia Serbariu” (the train runs every two hours in the morning and every hour in the afternoon). From Carbonia there is bus that can bring you to Sant’Antioco. The bus leaves from the train station (the bus is the line 801 towards Calasetta). The bus will depart (on Sunday 23/07) at 9:40, 11:00, 12:20, 16:19, 21:39, 22:47. Alternatively, you can hire a taxi from there (30-40 Euros).

Departure I: On Saturday 29/07/2017 we will have one shuttle. It will depart from the Mercury Boutique Hotel (making a stop in Sant’Antioco, Piazza Repubblica 5, at the bus stop) at 13:30.

Departure II: On Sunday 30/07/2017 we will have two shuttles. They will depart from the Mercury Boutique Hotel (making a stop in Sant’Antioco, Piazza Repubblica 5, at the bus stop) at 7:30 and 10:30 respectively.

Arriving at the Summer school

During the summer school we organized daily shuttle buses connecting Sant’Antioco (the town) with the school venue (Mercury Boutique Hotel). In particular, we will have a daily shuttle leaving from

Sant’Antioco (Piazza Repubblica 5, at the bus stop) at 8.30. The shuttle will depart from the Mercury Boutique Hotel at 18.30.

The day of the social dinner (28/07/2017) we will have a double service:

Sant’Antioco -> Mercury Boutique Hotel 8.30

Mercury Boutique Hotel -> Sant’Antioco 17:30

Sant’Antioco -> Mercury Boutique Hotel 19.00

Mercury Boutique Hotel -> Sant’Antioco 00:00

There is also public transportation connecting Sant’Antioco to Mercury Boutique Hotel. The service is offered by “Autoservizi Senis”. The bus departs from Viale Trento 4, Sant’Antioco at 9:00, 10:30, 14:00, 15:15, 18:30. The bus departs from Mercury Boutique Hotel at 12:32, 14:32, 18:02, 19:32 for return.
